Nobody should be surprised. The second Look Outside Your Window sold out on Record Store Day, this was always the next move.
Slipknot side project Look Outside Your Window — featuring Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Shawn Crahan, and Sid Wilson — is getting a wide release on June 12. The record was originally written and recorded during the All Hope Is Gone sessions back in 2008, sat unreleased for 18 years, and finally debuted as a limited RSD pressing on April 18. People lost their minds trying to get a copy. Pre-orders for the wide release are live now and include six vinyl variants and a CD digipak.
The RSD frenzy was real, and it told you everything you needed to know — this was always coming to a wider shelf. That’s not a knock. For collectors, the RSD pressing matters. For everyone else, June 12 is when the conversation actually starts.
Here’s the real question though: will metalheads actually like the music? Because this isn’t Iowa. It’s not even close to anything on All Hope Is Gone. Look Outside Your Window is atmospheric, introspective, dark in a different way — more 3am studio experiment than pit anthem. Some Slipknot fans are going to dig that side of these four. Others are going to feel misled and go back to the mask.
Either way, this has legs. The Slipknot name alone guarantees it moves copies, and 18 years of “lost album” mythology doesn’t hurt. Manage your expectations going in, and you’ll probably come out the other side with something worth spinning.
Pre-orders are live now. June 12 is the date.
