Ontario’s Tech Death Streak Isn’t Slowing Down
Another pleasant surprise to kick off the day. Days after I reviewed Goreworm out of Brantford, here’s a second Ontario tech deathcore band landing on my radar, and the name alone earns a click: Eaten By Sharks.
The five-piece just premiered a new single and lyric video, “In Tidal Chaos,” the second taste of their upcoming album The Undertow of Hate, out July 17 via CDN Records. It’s brutal and melodic in equal measure, and the lyric video that came with it is genuinely cool. Check it out below.
Here’s the thing: tech deathcore is quietly becoming one of the more interesting corners of metal right now. Take the atmosphere of death metal, push the playing to the edge of what’s humanly possible, and you get a sound that feels like a natural evolution of everything the genre has chased since the days of Death. Eaten By Sharks sit right in that pocket, and “In Tidal Chaos” is a sharp argument for paying attention before the album lands.
I’ve spun this one a few times now, and it keeps getting me more excited to hear what these guys do next. Two strong Ontario tech-death records on my plate inside a week is not a coincidence. Something is happening up north, and it’s worth your weekend.
