Megadeth has burned through what feels like a dozen drummers, but Dirk Verbeuren is the one who stuck, and now he’s doing a free clinic in our backyard. Go.
Metal Injection is hosting a Dirk Verbeuren Drum Clinic and Meet & Greet at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood on Tuesday, July 28. It’s free, in partnership with Musicians Institute and the metal-driven conservation non-profit Savage Lands. Verbeuren will walk through his career and play tracks from his catalog with Megadeth, Devin Townsend, Aborted, Soilwork, and more. The catch is capacity: you join the waitlist now, tickets get released via email on July 17, and it’s first come, first served. At the door you can grab an exclusive event poster and get it signed.
Here’s why this one matters. Dirk has lasted through the last couple of Megadeth album cycles, which in Mustaine’s world is basically a lifetime achievement award. The guy is a monster live, clinical in the best sense, so accurate it almost doesn’t look real, and genuinely fun to watch behind the kit. Getting to actually meet him, in a room built for players, is the kind of thing you don’t get to do twice.
