Still Running Strong

I’ve fallen in and out of love with Corrosion of Conformity more times than I can count. So it made me smile today to see their new tour kicks off tonight, and that these guys are still running strong.

CoC just dropped a video for “Baad Man,” the track that opens disc two of their double album Good God / Baad Man, out since April on Nuclear Blast. It was filmed in the middle of the night on the road in Kansas City, and it lands right as the band launches the second North American leg of their headlining tour with Whores and Crobot. First stop is tonight in Houston.

European dates and an October stop at Aftershock in Sacramento are up at coc.com.

Pepper Keenan has popped in and out of this band over the years, and he’s back now. That’s a major draw. When Pepper is fronting CoC you get the Deliverance-era swagger, the Southern groove, the voice that made In the Arms of God hit the way it did.

Getting here wasn’t clean. Reed Mullin died in 2020. Mike Dean walked away not long after. Pepper and Woody Weatherman could have let the name rest. Instead they holed up in Mississippi and wrote a sprawling double album, their most ambitious record in a career that goes back to 1982. The fact that it’s actually good, and that they’re out playing it, is the whole story.

I’m thinking about catching them this Saturday at The Regent here in Los Angeles. Maybe I’ll see you there.
