Who doesn’t love some new Behemoth? I, Scvlptor isn’t a brand new studio album in the traditional sense — but eight previously unreleased tracks isn’t nothing. That’s a full EP’s worth of material nobody’s heard yet.

Massacre Records announced yesterday that they’re handling the worldwide physical release of I, Scvlptor — out September 4 on CD, LP, cassette, and limited-edition box set. The original release was digital-only. This isn’t a straight repackage: it features eight previously unreleased songs, including the band revisiting their earliest material “with a modern edge while preserving its ancient spirit.” Forty minutes. Physical formats. Pre-orders and the full tracklist hit June 1.

Despite three-plus decades in the game, Behemoth still operate like they have something to prove. Nergal frames I, Scvlptor as “a tribute to the artists and bands without whom BEHEMOTH would never have existed” — which is not what you say when you’re running on fumes. This isn’t a stopgap padded with demos. The band is treating it as a full autonomous work, and the physical rollout through Massacre Records reinforces that.

Behemoth continues to set the bar for what blackened death metal can accomplish without compromising a note. September 4 is the date. June 1 is when you find out what’s on it. Happy collecting.
