156/Silence has a unique sound and they don’t get enough attention. From A Distance might be the thing that finally changes it.
Pittsburgh’s 156/Silence have announced their sixth studio album, From A Distance, due September 4 via Pure Noise Records — their first with the label. The announcement drops alongside lead single “No Arms” and a music video directed by Errick Easterday. The record was produced by Josh Schroeder, who handled Lorna Shore’s breakout catalog and ERRA’s recent run. That name alone sets expectations.
The guest spots are killer: Mike Hranica from The Devil Wears Prada on “Cannon Fodder,” Alex Reade from Make Them Suffer on the title track, Tony Castrati from Crippling Alcoholism on “Collateral.” These aren’t placeholder features — they’re names that signal the band knows exactly what kind of record they’re making and who belongs in the room.
There’s real weight behind this one. The band lost bassist Lukas Booker unexpectedly in 2025, and while From A Distance isn’t a grief record, that context is there. People Watching (2024) was already a step up — “Better Written Villain” was the kind of anthem the band had been building toward for years. This follows that thread with more atmosphere, more hooks, and Schroeder’s ear for records that hit hard without losing detail in the low end. When the band name-drops Thrice and BMTH as their creative reference points, that’s where the ambition is pointing.
“No Arms” is a strong entry point: heavy, melodic, built for repeat listens. The kind of track you throw on in the car and find something new every time.
No LA tour date yet. Hopefully that changes before September.
