Love Them or Not, This Is Cool
System Of A Down is a Los Angeles staple, and they’re celebrating 25 years of Toxicity the right way: at home, and for free. This is really cool, and it’s exactly the kind of thing I love to see in LA. I’m definitely going to stop by.
The band has teamed up with Beyond The Streets for a Toxicity 25th Anniversary Exhibition at the gallery’s space at 434 N La Brea Ave, running October 13 through 18. Entry is free and no ticket is required. According to the band’s announcement, it’ll feature rare artifacts and ephemera from the Toxicity era, immersive installations, and exclusive merch you can only get there.
Hours
Tuesday to Friday: 12 PM to 8 PM
Saturday and Sunday: 10 AM to 10 PM
Regardless of whether or not you like System Of A Down, the fact of the matter is that they’ve had a huge impact on heavy music. Toxicity debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in September 2001 and put “Chop Suey!”, “Aerials” and the title track on mainstream radio, which nobody would have bet on for a band this strange. It’s a monumental record from a monumental band for the hard rock and metal scene. Personally, I love a lot of their stuff.
What makes this one hit is where it’s happening. An LA band is celebrating its biggest record in its own city, in a free gallery on La Brea that anyone can walk into. It ties LA straight back to the music community that made this band.
Six days, no ticket, no excuse. Check it out.
