Football Took the Night. Anthrax Took It Back.
Anthrax are playing a 500 capacity room on the Sunset Strip next Saturday and I found out about it too late. That is the entire experience of trying to see a band this size in a club in 2026.
Here is what happened. Anthrax headline The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood on Saturday, September 26. It sits in the middle of their weekend with Iron Maiden and Megadeth at BMO Stadium, Friday the 25th and Sunday the 27th. That Sunday date is the whole reason this show exists. Maiden’s second Los Angeles night was originally booked for Saturday the 26th, then a USC and Oregon game at the Coliseum triggered a restriction on running two events in Exposition Park at the same time, and Maiden pushed their sold out Saturday back a day. The Friday show never moved. Saturday night in Los Angeles came open, and Anthrax dropped a club show into the hole.
A band that spent this year on stadium stages and festival main stages is going to play to roughly 500 people on Sunset. That does not happen anymore. Thrash bands of this era graduated out of rooms like the Roxy decades ago, and the only time they go back is when they want to, not when they have to. This is also a record release show. Cursum Perficio, their first album in ten years, came out today, and it was our number one pick on this week’s Friday Five. They ran the same play in New York on September 4, a club show where they debuted new material and covered Sick of It All.
Anthrax posted the poster with a SOLD OUT stamp across it today. If you got one, congratulations, you are going to have a better Saturday than the people who are waiting on Sunday.
