A Light Week Everywhere But Here
Loudwire called this a quiet week for tour announcements, and nationally they were right. Down here it wasn’t. Four of the runs announced in the past seven days route through Southern California, and the first one lands in two weeks. I’ve put them in the order you’ll need them.
Hippie Death Cult — Summer of Psych Tour (Blacklight Media / Metal Blade)
with Earth Tongue · The Well · The Obsessed (select dates)
The signing is the actual news here. Blacklight Media is Metal Blade’s imprint, and the band announced the deal and the tour in the same press release, which tells you the label wanted this moving fast. They say the new record is already finished and they’re previewing it live before it drops. Zebulon on August 24 is the only Los Angeles date on the entire US leg, in a room that holds a couple hundred people.
One detail the LA date hides: The Obsessed ride the back half of this run, Toledo through Boise. Wino doesn’t come west, so we get Earth Tongue instead, which I’ll take.

Spy open this tour in our backyard and then leave. Corona, San Diego and Los Angeles run back to back to back on October 2, 3 and 4 before the routing swings east and doesn’t return until Halloween at 924 Gilman. The Paramount is the LA night, with F*nt*nyl added to that bill specifically. No Guard plays all 26.

Born of Osiris are playing The Discovery front to back for its fifteenth anniversary, and that’s the reason to care about this one. That record is why an entire lane of bands exists. Miss May I co-headline, and the SoCal stop is the Glass House in Pomona on December 4. Worth noting this hasn’t reached the metal news sites yet, so the poster is currently ahead of the coverage.

Kingdom of Giants — North American Headlining Tour
with Deadlands · Holy Wars · Night Rider (select dates)
Twenty-six dates from Seattle in mid-November down to a hometown close in Sacramento, built around the new single and video for “The Edge of a Dream.” The Roxy on December 17 is the LA night, one day before they finish at home. Holy Wars on the support slate is the detail I’d flag: an LA band getting a full national run instead of a couple of local openers, which is how a scene band actually breaks out.
